When he found out I run a baking blog, he said I absolutely had to make their very popular <strong><a type=\"URL\" id=\"https:\/\/www.heelhollandbakt.nl\/recepten\/tompoucen\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heelhollandbakt.nl\/recepten\/tompouce-maken\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tompoucen cake<\/a><\/strong>. I &#8220;investigated&#8221; the matter, translated the Dutch <strong>cream cake recipe <\/strong>with Google, and prepared the cake. The cake itself is not very difficult to make, although it requires at least basic skills. If you doubt your skills, you can use ready-made puff pastry. Here, I made a slightly simplified version, which is <strong>Danish pastry<\/strong>. The main difference between Danish pastry and puff pastry lies in how butter is added to the dough. For <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wypiekibeaty.com.pl\/croissanty-idealne\/\">puff pastry<\/a><\/strong>, butter is shaped into a flat slab and then rolled with the dough. For Danish pastry, butter is cut into small pieces (or grated) and added to the dough this way. Danish pastry is quicker to prepare than puff pastry, and they can be used interchangeably. On the blog, you&#8217;ll find a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wypiekibeaty.com.pl\/oponki-cronuty\/\">cronuts recipe<\/a><\/strong> made with Danish pastry (with a little yeast added). Once you have the dough ready, you need to prepare the creams. First, make the pudding for the custard cream and cool it thoroughly &#8211; you can even cool it in the fridge. Then, all that&#8217;s left is to whip the heavy cream and assemble the Tompoucen cake. On the website where the recipe was recommended to me, there is also a<a type=\"URL\" id=\"https:\/\/www.heelhollandbakt.nl\/recepten\/tompoucen\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heelhollandbakt.nl\/recepten\/tompouce-maken\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> video of the cake preparation<\/a>. Because of this, neatly cutting pieces of the cake can be problematic. Therefore, I suggest cutting the top layer of the cake into pieces before putting the cake in the fridge. It&#8217;s best to do this with a sharp serrated knife, cutting like a saw. In the original tompoucen recipe, gelatin is added only to the custard cream. I believe that adding it to the heavy cream as well can help when cutting the cake. Then the whipped cream will have a firmer consistency and will not flow out during cutting. The cream cake tastes best when it is at room temperature. Then the Danish pastry is crispy, but not hard, and is pleasant to eat. Before eating, Danes most often remove the top pastry and eat the cream with the bottom pastry, and only then the removed top. <strong>Tompoucen<\/strong> tastes fantastic and looks beautiful, and even though I was worried about it, it&#8217;s not too sweet. Its name comes from Tom Pouce, which translates to our Tom Thumb. I\u2019m not entirely sure how the pastry's name got linked to the character, but word has it that it was inspired by a performing circus dwarf who went by the stage name Tom Pouce. As you can see, people all over the world love similar desserts, because let\u2019s be honest\u2014this recipe isn't exactly groundbreaking. The French <i data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"484\">mille-feuille<\/i> or Napoleon Cake look and taste very similar, as does our native Polish <i data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"570\">napoleonka<\/i>.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">In fact, the <i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"13\">tompoucen<\/i> is very similar to our local Polish cream pie, <i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"70\">krem\u00f3wka<\/i>, such as the famous Papal cream pies (<i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"117\">krem\u00f3wki papieskie<\/i>). However, there is one glaring difference. A <i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"182\">tompoucen<\/i> is topped with a thick layer of icing or fondant (ideally with a touch of raspberry), whereas our Wadowice <i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"299\">krem\u00f3wka<\/i> is usually just dusted with powdered sugar. So, if you make a <i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"370\">tompoucen<\/i> and dust it with powdered sugar instead of using icing, you will basically end up with Papal <i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"473\">krem\u00f3wki<\/i>!<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"5\">Cream Pie Recipe<\/h3>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">The recipe for <i data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"15\">napoleonka<\/i> itself isn't overly difficult, though it is a bit time-consuming.
