- 2 eggs (size L)
- 100 g sugar (brown sugar for me – 1/2 cup)
- 80 ml oil (1/3 cup)
- 120 ml buttermilk (or natural yogurt – 1/2 cup)
- 300 g wheat flour – all-purpose (2 cups)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder

- 30 g butter (melted – 2 tablespoons)
- 70 g sugar (brown sugar for me – 1/3 cup)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon

- 75 g wheat flour – all-purpose (1/2 cup)
- 50 g sugar (brown sugar for me – 1/4 cup)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 50 g butter

How to make cinnamon banana cake
- Transfer the bananas to a bowl and mash with a fork.approx 250 g bananas
- Add sugar, buttermilk, oil, and eggs to them – mix with a fork until combined.2 eggs, 100 g sugar, 80 ml oil, 120 ml buttermilk
- Mix the flour with baking powder and add the wet ingredients to it – mix with a spoon.300 g wheat flour – all-purpose, 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Transfer about half of the batter to the prepared pan (I lined it with baking paper).
- Mix the cinnamon swirl ingredients together.30 g butter, 70 g sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Spread the cinnamon swirl over the batter in the pan – gently swirl it on top.
- Spread the rest of the batter and level it.
How to make cinnamon crumble for banana cake
- Transfer all crumble ingredients to a bowl.75 g wheat flour – all-purpose, 50 g sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 50 g butter
- Rub them briefly with your fingers.
- Sprinkle the crumble over the top of the cake.
- Bake the cake at 170 degrees (fan-forced) or 180 degrees (top/bottom heat) for about an hour – until a dry skewer comes out clean.
- After baking, let the cake cool slightly and remove it from the pan.

Banana cake with cinnamon – notes
I had bananas in the kitchen whose expiry date was rapidly approaching, and slicing them into pieces for a bowl of oatmeal was no longer an option. Therefore, it was the best possible time for them to end up in a banana cake.
There are already a few great banana cake recipes on the blog, e.g., for moist banana cake, but I believe you can never have too many good recipes, and something new can always appear!
So I came up with a simple and quick banana cake without a mixer – meaning it’s only mixed with a spoon. I prepared all the ingredients – common household items – and baked this amazing cake.
I must admit, I was surprised myself how good it turned out!
Banana cakes tend to be slightly dense, compact, and moist. But this cake turned out wonderfully fluffy. And super cinnamony. While baking, the whole house smelled incredibly of cinnamon. You absolutely must make this cake!

How to make banana cake with cinnamon – tips
As I mentioned before, you can make this banana cake entirely without a mixer! Just mix the ingredients with a spoon or a fork.
I didn’t add cinnamon directly to the cake here; instead, I prepared a sweet cinnamon filling, which I spread over the cake and gently swirled with a spoon. This created a delicious and sweet cinnamon layer inside the cake.
Additional cinnamon flavor and aroma come from the sweet and crunchy crumble, to which I added a teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
The whole thing is simply wonderful! Plus, the cake stays fresh for a long time. I kept my cake under a glass dome, and it was wonderfully soft even after three days (only my husband and I ate the cake, as the children aren’t fond of banana cakes).

How to vary banana cake?
If you wish, you can add some chopped chocolate or chocolate chips to the cake. You can also sprinkle chopped chocolate on top of the cake instead of crumble, or arrange two halves of a sliced banana on top.
If you’re not a fan of cinnamon, you can omit the cinnamon filling inside the cake and not add cinnamon to the crumble. In that case, you’ll get a basic banana cake.
