Recipe for a quick chocolate cake without a mixer
If you fancy something sweet with coffee or tea, but you’re short on time or don’t trust your skills, then make this chocolate chip yogurt cake. You can prepare the cake itself without a mixer, because it’s a spoon-mixed cake! Just briefly mix the ingredients and you can bake the cake. Choose your favorite chocolate for it and enjoy a piece of still warm cake!

Chocolate chip yogurt cake – recipe step by step
If you like chocolate cakes and chocolate, then be sure to bake this express chocolate cake with a touch of cinnamon sugar.

- Baking pan with a diameter of about 24 cm or a square one measuring 22/22 cm. Greased with butter and dusted with flour or breadcrumbs.

- 300 g wheat flour – all-purpose (2 cups)
- 150 g sugar (3/4 cup – the cake is not very sweet)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 eggs (size L)
- 180 g natural yogurt (I used thick Greek yogurt – 3/4 cup)
- 120 ml oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla (vanilla extract can be used)
- approx 100 g chocolate (chopped or chocolate chips)
- 50 g sugar (1/4 cup)
- 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon

How to make chocolate chip cake step by step
Step 1 – mix dry ingredients
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and baking powder.300 g wheat flour – all-purpose, 150 g sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder
Step 2 – mix wet ingredients
- In a second bowl, mix oil, yogurt, eggs, and vanilla.2 eggs, 180 g natural yogurt, 120 ml oil, 2 teaspoons vanilla
Step 3 – combine ingredients
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix with a spoon or whisk.
- If the batter is too thick, you can add a little more yogurt or a splash of milk.
- Add approximately 3/4 of the chocolate and mix.approx 100 g chocolate
Step 4 – transfer the batter to the pan
- Transfer the batter to the pan and spread it in an even layer.
- Sprinkle the top with the remaining chocolate.
- Mix sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle it over the top of the cake (you can save some and sprinkle it at the end after baking).50 g sugar, 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon
Step 5 – bake the cake
- Place the pan with the cake in the oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius (top-bottom mode) or 170 degrees Celsius (convection) and bake for about 30 minutes – until a dry skewer.
- After baking, let the cake cool slightly and sprinkle with the remaining sugar – if any is left :)

Spoon-mixed chocolate chip yogurt cake – notes
I recently found the recipe for today’s cake on Heather’s blog Curly Girl Kitchen and decided to try it because its simplicity captivated me. The preparation here is incredibly quick and simple, and it only requires very basic ingredients. Ones you usually already have in the kitchen. That’s why this cake is perfect for emergencies – unexpected guests or low supplies. The cake can be ready in about 40 minutes! Therefore, I highly recommend this recipe and encourage you to save it for later.

What ingredients are needed to make a cake without a mixer?
As I mentioned above, you will only need very basic ingredients here. Below is a condensed list of the products I used and possible substitutes.
- wheat flour – I used type 500 flour, but regular cake flour or type 550 flour can also be used. You can use all-purpose flour too.
- natural yogurt – for me, it’s thick Greek yogurt
- oil – for me, it’s rapeseed oil, but you can use any oil, even melted coconut oil
- vanilla – to add flavor to the cake, I added some vanilla extract, you can also use vanilla flavoring, or another flavoring – e.g., orange or almond flavoring would also fit nicely here
- chocolate – I used dessert chocolate chunks, if you prefer sweeter cakes, you can use milk chocolate

How to make chocolate chip cake – tips
I don’t have many tips here, because making this cake is extremely simple – just mix the ingredients and combine them. I’ll add that the batter comes out very thick. If you have a lot of trouble mixing it, add a little more yogurt. Regular milk also works well – just pour in a little and mix.
You can also make the cake with added fruit. Because it’s thick, they definitely won’t sink to the bottom. However, don’t add them to the batter, as they might break apart during mixing. Transfer the cake batter to the mold, and arrange the fruit on top. Bake the cake similarly to the one with chocolate.

How many calories does chocolate cake have?
In the table below the recipe, I provided the calorie count for 100g of cake (based on the ingredients I used). If you cut the cake into 12 roughly equal pieces, each will have approximately 319 kcal (carbohydrates – 38g, protein – 5g, fat – 16g).

How to store chocolate cake?
It’s best to keep the cake at room temperature (e.g., on the kitchen counter). If you want the cake to last longer, transfer it to an airtight container with a lid to prevent it from drying out.
You can also freeze the cake for about 3 months.
