No-bake chocolate mousse cake – notes
I invite you to try this super chocolatey cake made on an Oreo cookie crust and decorated with whipped cream.
This is a no-bake chocolate cake, so it’s perfect for summer when you don’t feel like turning on the oven.
The chocolate tart looks and tastes amazing, and it’s very simple to make – see for yourselves :)

How to make a no-bake chocolate cake – tips
You will need a lot of chocolate here – as many as four bars. I used two bars of milk chocolate and two bars of dark chocolate. The milk chocolate added sweetness to the cake, so I didn’t use any additional sugar :)
Besides chocolate, you will need whipping cream – I used 30% liquid cream in a carton, gelatin (powdered for me), and cookies for the crumb crust.
I used Oreo cookies, but you can also use their Lidl substitutes, or regular digestive biscuits – just make sure to choose chocolate ones.
Preparing the chocolate tart itself is neither difficult nor time-consuming. Most of the time will be spent chilling the cake in the refrigerator.
Remember to thoroughly chill the whipping cream before whisking – otherwise, it won’t whip up.
You also need to be careful with gelatin – it must not be overheated, as it may then lose its gelling properties.
I always cover the gelatin with a small amount of cold water and set it aside to swell for a few minutes.
Then I heat it in the microwave (for a maximum of 10 seconds) until it becomes slightly liquid.

How to avoid gelatin “lumps” in chocolate mousse?
Before adding gelatin to the cold mousse, you need to temper it. This way, there won’t be such strong temperature differences, and the gelatin won’t set too quickly.
Simply add a heaped tablespoon of chocolate mousse to the heated gelatin and mix thoroughly. Only then add the tempered gelatin to the mousse and mix thoroughly.
The no-bake chocolate tart thickens and slightly hardens while chilling.
Therefore, it’s worth taking it out a little earlier before serving. The cake will warm up, and the chocolate mousse will become fluffier.
It’s best to cut the cake with a warm knife, then it will be easier to cut nice slices.
