How does limoncello tiramisu differ from classic tiramisu?
Classic Italian tiramisu is prepared with coffee, amaretto, and bitter cocoa. Ladyfingers are soaked in cooled coffee mixed with almond amaretto liqueur. The mascarpone cheese itself is mixed with egg yolks beaten until white with sugar. This cream is used to layer the soaked ladyfingers and is additionally sprinkled with bitter cocoa. The coffee version is the most popular and well-known, but in Italy, you can also find other flavor versions. My limoncello tiramisu today has several differences – firstly, there is no coffee here, only limoncello liqueur mixed with water, and I added lemon curd and limoncello to the mascarpone instead of egg yolks and sugar. Such lemon tiramisu is more fruity, light, and refreshing. Most ideal for warm summer days.

What ingredients are essential for preparing lemon tiramisu?
To make this dessert at home, you will need a few basic ingredients, but they are available in every larger store, as well as in discount stores such as Biedronka, Lidl, or Netto.
- mascarpone – mascarpone cheese is the base of this dessert and cannot really be replaced by anything else, but it is readily available in stores and discount supermarkets
- whipping cream – I used 30% UHT cream, which will be the best, but you can also use 36% cream, though the dessert’s calorie count will increase then
- ladyfingers – the best are special tiramisu ladyfingers – long and somewhat firmer – you can easily buy them at Lidl or Biedronka
- Limoncello – this is an Italian lemon liqueur (I bought mine at Lidl), you can replace it with regular lemon liqueur, or a lemon cordial/tincture

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ
Does limoncello tiramisu contain alcohol?
Yes, this recipe uses Italian limoncello (lemon liqueur), which gives the dessert its characteristic lemon aroma and unique taste. During preparation, some alcohol may evaporate, but the dessert still contains a small amount. If you are preparing tiramisu for children or people who do not consume alcohol, you can prepare an alcohol-free version.
How to prepare limoncello tiramisu in an alcohol-free version?
To make alcohol-free lemon tiramisu, simply replace limoncello with lemon juice mixed with water or lemon syrup. You can also use more lemon curd, which will give the dessert an intense lemon flavor and aroma.
How long can lemon tiramisu be stored?
Limoncello tiramisu is best stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 2–3 days of preparation. The dessert should be kept in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap to prevent it from absorbing odors from the refrigerator.
Can limoncello be replaced with another ingredient?
If you don’t have limoncello, you can use regular lemon liqueur, or a lemon cordial/tincture. You can also make an alcohol-free version using lemon juice mixed with water and sugar.
