  • 15 g yeast (fresh)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 150 ml milk (lukewarm)
  • 300 g wheat flour – all-purpose (- 2 cups)
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 50 g butter (melted and cooled)

  • 1 egg
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • a little butter (- melted)

How to make soft butter buns

  • Mix the yeast with sugar until it becomes more liquid, add milk and mix thoroughly.
    15 g yeast, 1 teaspoon sugar, 150 ml milk

  • Cover with a cloth and set aside for about 20 minutes to rise.

  • Put the remaining ingredients into the mixer bowl.
    300 g wheat flour – all-purpose , 50 g butter, 0.5 teaspoon salt

  • Add the yeast starter and knead the dough – it will be thick and should come away from the sides of the bowl.

  • Cover the bowl with the dough with a cloth and set aside for about an hour to rise.

  • After this time, take the dough out onto a floured surface and knead briefly.
  • Divide into 8 portions.

  • Form a ball from each piece of dough.

  • Arrange the buns in a buttered baking dish – leave space between the buns.

  • Cover the baking dish with a cloth and set aside for about 30 minutes to puff up.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (top/bottom heat).
  • Brush the puffed-up buns with egg mixed with milk.

  • Place in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes – until nicely browned.
  • After baking, remove from the oven and immediately brush the tops of the buns with a little melted butter.

  • Store uneaten buns in a plastic bag to keep them soft.

Soft and fluffy butter rolls – notes

Today I have for you a recipe for soft butter rolls.

Such rolls are perfect for breakfast and beyond.

They taste great simply spread with butter or cream cheese, but they are equally delicious for sandwiches.

I prepared my rolls with wheat flour (I used type 500 flour here) and fresh yeast.

I baked the rolls in a heat-resistant dish, and as they rose, they snuggled up to each other :)

The recipe for wheat yeast rolls itself is very simple to make, which is why I highly recommend these rolls to you.

I’ll add that these rolls are soft even the next day!

I put the rolls we didn’t eat right away into a plastic bag and made them for my daughter for school in the morning.

The roll was still nicely soft and springy!

How to make breakfast rolls – tips

As I wrote earlier, these are yeast rolls, so we start by preparing the yeast starter.

First, check if your yeast is still good.

They cannot be dried out or moldy.

I use fresh yeast, but if you have dried (instant) yeast, use half the amount of fresh yeast.

I put the yeast into a glass, add sugar, and mix together until the yeast becomes slightly liquid.

Then I add warm (but not hot) milk and mix together.

I cover the prepared yeast with a cloth and set it aside in a warm place for about 20 minutes – during this time, it should thicken and form a thick foam – like a mousse.

While the yeast is working, I prepare the rest of the ingredients.

Into the mixer bowl, I pour the flour, add salt, and melted, cooled butter.

I add the risen yeast and knead the yeast dough.

I always knead yeast dough with a mixer fitted with a dough hook (or spiral beaters). I don’t knead dough by hand because I don’t have enough strength in them and, honestly, I don’t feel like it :D

The dough for breakfast rolls will be quite thick and should come away from the bowl.

Then I cover the bowl with the dough with a towel and set it aside for about an hour to rise.

Note!

If you’re short on time, you can skip this step and prepare the rolls right away.

I turn the dough out onto a kitchen counter, which I lightly dust with flour beforehand, and knead it briefly.

I form the dough into a thick disc and divide it into portions.

I made 8 soft butter rolls.

How to divide yeast dough for rolls?

I formed my dough into a round disc and cut it into quarters.

Then I cut each quarter in half – this way I got 8 relatively similar rolls.

Then I rolled each piece of dough into a ball and placed it in a buttered baking dish.

I covered the baking dish with the rolls with a kitchen towel and set it aside for about 30 minutes for the rolls to rise.

After baking, I immediately brushed my soft butter rolls with a little melted butter.

This added a buttery flavor and softness to the rolls.

You can serve these wheat rolls warm or after cooling :)
