Birthday cake ideas for children and more

I have gathered here in one post all (or almost all) my birthday cake ideas for children and adults – although these are mainly cakes for children. Over the years, quite a few have accumulated due to my own children and friends’ children. Now I make fewer such cakes, but maybe my ideas will be useful to you :) And besides birthday cakes, there are also inspirations for other occasions – e.g. for a bachelorette party, baby shower, or even for Holy Communion, or Baptism.

Previously, many of these cakes were made with sugar paste. It allowed for many very interesting and beautiful cakes with various figures, which children especially loved. But more “Polish” cakes with cream were also not uncommon. Besides, there are also trends for cakes and their decoration methods, and they change over time. You can make the cakes themselves in any flavor and with any creams – there are plenty of recipes on the blog for various cakes – my children are loyal fans of cream cake with raspberry frużelina – with my poppy seed cake I described the recipe for such a basic cake perfect for children.

Flamingo cake

A beautiful and not difficult cake for a girl or woman, resembling a flamingo in appearance.

Paradise beach cake

BB8 cake

A cake for a Star Wars saga fan in the shape of a robot. There’s some work involved, but the wow effect is guaranteed :) You can see the recipe for this cake.

Unicorn cake

I made this unicorn cake for my daughter’s birthday. It’s an English-style cake – covered with sugar paste, with a sugar unicorn figure, and additionally decorated with colorful creams.

A cake with a charming bear and balloons, perfect for a small child’s birthday, as well as for a baby shower.

Bumblebee cake

This cake is also in English style and is inspired by the famous Transformer – Bumblebee. It’s an ideal cake for a boy, although probably many an adult or even a girl would be happy with such a cake.

Mario cake

Chocolate cake with a dinosaur

I think such a cake will especially appeal to boys who love dinosaurs. Although probably many a girl would also be delighted with such a cake. Here, the cake is covered with chocolate cream and topped with chocolate glaze. The dinosaur figure is made of sugar paste and placed more in the center of the cake, as if it were emerging from it.

Bob the Builder cake

I probably don’t need to introduce this “gentleman” :) When my son was little, he loved Bob the Builder, and so did all his friends from kindergarten. Now I don’t know if this cartoon is as popular as it was years ago. The cake itself is in English style, meaning it’s covered with sugar paste, plus sugar figures of Bob the Builder and an Excavator.

Hedgehog cake

A cake with a charming hedgehog is an ideal cake for a small child.

Furby cake

A cake resembling a Furby with creamy fur.

Cakes with lollipops

Cakes decorated with simple lollipops – either meringue or more traditional ones. Great for both adults and children.

Masha and the Bear cake

I think a cake with Masha will be a great idea, especially for a girl. Although many boys probably also love this cartoon and the resourceful girl. Here, the Masha and the Bear figures are made of sugar paste. Additionally, I added small sugar decorations, and I painted the side of the cake with food coloring to make it look a bit like a meadow.

Chocolate dog cake

This cake is covered with chocolate cream and its shape resembles a dog. Its “fur” was piped with a small round nozzle, and it was a lot of work. But it was worth it for the effect.

Cake with a cute doggy – it will be great for both a girl and a boy.

Pumpkin cake

League of Legends cake

I made this cake for a friend – a fan of the game. Such a cake will be perfect for a League of Legends enthusiast. Here, I covered the cake with sugar paste and then painted it with food coloring.

Star Wars cake

Naked cake with flowing chocolate

This type of “naked cake” will be great for adults. It will be perfect for birthdays, name days, or any anniversary. You can decorate it in any way you like. And for ladies, I recommend adding fresh flowers.

Beekeeper’s cake

Cake for a beekeeper with chocolate flakes resembling honeycomb.

Kiwaczek cake

This cake is a sentimental journey and may appeal to older people who know the fairy tale, but also to children who will like the cake’s appearance itself. Here, the cake is decorated with piped chocolate cream resembling fur and elements made of sugar paste.

Cake for 30th wedding anniversary

Simple and elegant wedding anniversary cake. Decorated with fresh flowers and covered with sugar paste.

Car cakes

This is an idea for a birthday cake for a boy for his first birthday and beyond. Cakes with cars or in the shape of cars.

Baby cake

Such a cake with a sitting baby is a great idea for a birthday cake, or, as in my case, for Holy Baptism. Here, the figure is made of sugar paste, plus the covering and decorations are also made of sugar paste.

SpongeBob birthday cake

Yes, this cartoon will probably never get old and will always have loyal viewers. Such a cake in the shape of SpongeBob SquarePants will especially appeal to slightly older children.

Bicycle cake

A cake for a bicycle enthusiast and cycling trips. Here I painted the bicycle on sugar paste with food coloring.

Cake with a bouquet of roses

Here, the bouquet of roses is made entirely of sugar paste. It requires some skill, but such a sugar bouquet looks very nice and doesn’t lose its freshness.

Butterfly cake for a birthday

Cake in sugar paste with colorful sugar butterflies and flowers. This is a perfect cake for a girl.

Teddy bear cake

This is a cake for a friend’s daughter. For her first birthday. A teddy bear made of sugar paste plus decorations. Together, this creates a charming cake for a child.

Winnie the Pooh cake

A cake with Pooh, who needs no introduction. Pooh made of sugar paste, and the cake covering also made of sugar paste.

Olaf cake

Another cake inspired by a fairy tale and a fairy tale character. Here, Olaf made of sugar paste plays the main role :)

R2D2 Cake

This cake requires some work and ingenuity, but if you have a Star Wars fan at home, a robot-shaped cake like this will be a hit!

Owl cake

A cake resembling an owl in appearance – in a more cartoonish version. Simple and very elegant.

Animal cakes

Cakes with sugar animal figures are always a great idea for children’s cakes. Such figures look adorable.

Minion Cake

A cake inspired by another fairy tale – this time, the adorable Minions.

Spiderman Cake

Cakes with this superhero will especially appeal to boys – both big and small ;)

Basketball cake

A cake in the shape of a basketball will be perfect for fans of this sport.

Elephant cake

This cake was for Holy Baptism, but it will also be perfect for a birthday.

Fitness cake

Another cake for a fan – or rather, a female fan – of sports and a healthy lifestyle.

Concrete mixer and fire truck cake

Cakes in the shape of large vehicles like a concrete mixer and a fire truck are probably the dream of many a boy :)

Toothless cake

Another cake inspired by a fairy tale and its characters. This time with the friendly dragon Toothless.

Garbi birthday cake

This is a cake for fans of motoring and classic cars. Perfect for both children and adults.

Olaf cake

Another (though chronologically – earlier) cake with Olaf from the fairy tale “Frozen”.

Lamb cakes

I made such unusual wedding cakes for a friend. But lamb-shaped cakes (without the veil ;)) can also be for other celebrations.

Frog cake

Cake with charming little frogs made of sugar paste.

Double cake

When you need to prepare one cake for two people, you can divide its decoration into two sides. Here I have a cake inspired by two different fairy tales. The sugar paste cake is painted with food coloring.

Formula 1 cake

A cake in the shape of a race car will surely appeal to every boy – big and small.

Angry Birds cakes

When my son was little, Angry Birds were very popular, so I made several cakes with them. Some with figures, some in the shape of Angry Birds.
