- 170 g butter (softened)
- 100 g powdered sugar (⅔ cup)
- 1 egg (L at room temperature)
- 225 g all-purpose flour (1½ cups)
- 0.5 teaspoon salt

How to make pretzel cookies step by step
Step 1 – preparations
- Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.225 g all-purpose flour, 0.5 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Break or coarsely chop the pretzels (40 g).approx. 40 g pretzels
- Chop the white chocolate.100 g white chocolate
Step 2 – preparing the dough
- Cream the butter with powdered sugar for a few minutes until fluffy and light in color.170 g butter, 100 g powdered sugar
- Add the egg and a tablespoon of the mixed flour and blend briefly – just until combined.1 egg
- Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing only on low speed and just until combined – not too long!
- Add the pretzels and chocolate to the bowl.
- Mix everything together with a spoon.
- Place the bowl with the dough in the refrigerator for about an hour – so that the mixture firms up.
Step 3 – baking cookies with pretzels
- Turn on the oven to 180℃ (top/bottom heating mode).
- On a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, scoop large cookies – I used an ice cream scoop for portions and arranged them with space in between.
- Finally, arrange and lightly press a whole pretzel on top of each cookie.approx. 12 pieces pretzels
- Place the tray into the hot oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes – until golden brown.
- Cool the cookies before removing them from the baking sheet – right after baking they will be soft, and as they cool, they will become crispy on the outside.

Why Make Pretzel and White Chocolate Cookies?
My daughter came to me and said I could bake pretzel cookies for her and her friends – especially since I hadn’t made them before. It didn’t take much convincing, and as you can see, I made the cookies. They turned out super delicious, subtly sweet thanks to the chopped chocolate and with a touch of saltiness – from the salty pretzels and a pinch of salt added to the dough. If you like such sweet and salty combinations, then you absolutely must bake these cookies. Their preparation is super quick and simple, the cookies have a very simple ingredient list, and all ingredients are easily accessible. Such a slightly salty cookie is an ideal idea for dessert, with coffee, as a snack during the day, or even for a super quick breakfast!

What Ingredients Are Needed for Pretzel Cookies?
To bake such sweet and salty cookies at home for coffee or tea, you will only need a few ingredients. Below is a shortened list of products I used and possible substitutes.
- butter – I used extra butter with 82% fat content, and it works best, but you can ultimately use a butter blend or vegetable butter
- sugar – for creamed cakes, I prefer to use powdered sugar, but if you don’t have it, use regular sugar – half a glass (100 g) will be enough, as chocolate will also add a lot of sweetness
- chocolate – I used white chocolate, and thanks to that, I added less sugar. You can also use milk or dark chocolate (then you can add a bit more sugar if you prefer sweeter cookies)
- pretzels – any lightly salted ones will be good; you can use more than specified in the recipe

Tips for perfect cookies
For preparing the cookies, we use soft butter at room temperature, so if yours is cold, you need to take it out of the fridge early – at least two hours beforehand. Take out the egg immediately too. If you forget, you can place the egg in hot water (tap water is fine) for a few – several minutes.
You also need to chill the prepared dough afterward, because if you start scooping it when it’s too soft, the cookies will spread very quickly and it will be a mess! So, put the bowl in the fridge for an hour, or in the freezer for about 30 minutes.

How to store cookies with pretzels?
Baked and well-cooled cookies with pretzels and white chocolate are best transferred to an airtight container so they don’t absorb moisture and don’t dry out excessively. Such cookies are best consumed within a week, but even after that time, they will still be tasty and good to eat.
How many calories does a cookie with pretzels and chocolate have?
In the table, I provided the calorie count for 100 g of finished cookies. From this recipe, I got 12 large and thick cookies. Using a total of about 55 g of pretzels, one such cookie had about 268 kcal (carbohydrates – 30 g, protein – 3.5 g, fats – 15 g). 268 kcal per cookie is quite a lot, but a regular slice of cake with coffee, or a donut usually has around 350 kcal. So, one such cookie with pretzels for coffee is perfectly sufficient for a whole dessert :)
