Vanilla Sugar
Vanilla Sugar – Recipes for Everyone!
Vanilla sugar is simply sugar flavored with vanilla.
In stores, you’ll often find so-called “vanillin sugar,” which mimics vanilla flavor. It’s made by adding ethylvanillin and vanilla to sugar.
You can also make vanilla sugar at home. Just put sugar in a jar and add vanilla pods. Close the jar and let it sit for about 2 weeks. During this time, the vanilla pods will infuse the sugar with their aroma.
For a stronger flavor, you can grind the sugar together with the vanilla pods.
Instead of vanilla sugar, you can also make vanilla extract.
Use vodka instead of sugar. Place vanilla pods in a bottle of vodka and let it sit in a dark place for 2 weeks. This extract is usually added in small amounts—1–2 teaspoons—to cakes, cupcakes, and creams.
