Peanut-chocolate cake – notes
My husband and his friends recently went for an ultra run in Croatia, so of course I had to bake them something good to load up on carbohydrates and add energy. I opted for ingredients that are ideal for athletes – peanut butter and chocolate. I searched the internet a bit and came across a peanut butter cake recipe – there, the author baked it in a loaf pan, but I decided on a version baked in a larger mold. And so I baked this peanut cake with cocoa, and now I highly recommend it to you too!

What ingredients are necessary to bake a peanut butter cake?
To prepare this cake, you will need a few basic ingredients. Below is a condensed list of the products I used and possible substitutes.
- peanut butter – I most recommend smooth peanut butter here – then you can nicely mix it with sugar, but if you only have one with peanut pieces, it’s not a problem – you can also use it – then there will be crunchy nut pieces in the cake. You can also make homemade peanut butter if you can’t buy it anywhere – although you can easily get it in any Biedronka or Lidl, as well as in larger stores.
- cocoa – for the chocolate part, you will need bitter cocoa – it can be regular or defatted. It cannot be a sweetened cocoa drink!
- chocolate – for the frosting, I used dark chocolate, but if you prefer sweeter cakes, you can use milk chocolate – only then use less heavy cream for the frosting – for 150 g of milk chocolate, use about 80 ml of heavy cream.
- heavy cream – for me, it’s liquid cream in a carton with 30% fat content; you can also use 36% cream – only then the cake’s calorie content will slightly increase.
- buttermilk – I added regular natural buttermilk to the cake; you can replace it with kefir or a thinner natural yogurt; ultimately, it can also be regular milk – only then don’t pour in the entire glass at once, but first add about 3/4 of a glass, and if the batter is too thick, then add the rest.

How to store marbled peanut butter cake?
After baking and cooling, it’s worth transferring the cake to a container with a lid or covering it with a cake dome. This will help the cake stay fresh and soft longer and prevent it from drying out. You can store the cake at room temperature for several days, and I think even up to a week. You can also freeze the nut cake for about 3 months.

How many calories does a cake with peanut butter and cocoa have?
In the table below the recipe, I provided the calorie count for 100 g of the cake – using the products I used. If you divide it into approximately 20 similar portions, each will have about 282 kcal (carbohydrates – 31 g, protein – 7 g, fats – 14 g).
I hope you like this marbled nut-chocolate cake and will gladly use the recipe. I would be very happy if you then share your comments below the recipe.
