Almonds – recipes for everyone!
Almonds are edible seeds of the almond tree, a popular ingredient in kitchens worldwide.
They can be eaten raw or subjected to thermal processing, such as roasting or baking, and used in various dishes.
Almonds are rich in healthy fats, protein, fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, iron, and zinc. They have a beneficial effect on heart health, as their consumption helps reduce LDL cholesterol levels (the so-called bad cholesterol) in the blood. They can also help maintain normal blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Almonds are also beneficial for people with diabetes, as they have a low glycemic index and can help control blood sugar levels. They are also rich in fiber, which helps maintain a feeling of fullness and regulates digestion.
Almonds are also rich in vitamin E, which acts as a powerful antioxidant and helps protect the body from harmful free radicals. They can also help maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails.
Almonds can be eaten with their brown skin, or blanched. Blanched almonds do not have this skin – to remove it, it is best to pour hot water over them and, once soaked, remove it using a knife.
Ground almonds are sometimes known as almond flour and in this form are the main ingredient of famous macarons, or marzipan.
