Recipe for simple spiced cookies baked with plum jam
Christmas is getting closer, and I’m spoiling myself and my family with such delicious cookies. These spiced cookies with plum jam do not require rolling and cutting out cookies with molds. Just roll the dough into balls and bake them. If you like aromatic, gingerbread-like baked goods combined with traditional Polish plum jam, then you must check out my recipe!

Spiced cookies with plum jam recipe step by step
If you like homemade cookies and gladly test new recipes, then this year you absolutely must bake these charming and delicious cookies with plum jam.

- 200 g butter (softened)
- 100 g powdered sugar (2/3 cup)
- 250 g all-purpose flour (1 and 2/3 cups)
- 1 teaspoon gingerbread spice
- approx 70 g plum jam

How to make spiced cookies step by step
Step 1 – prepare the cookie dough
- Blend the butter with sugar for a few minutes at high speed until the butter is fluffy and light in color.200 g butter, 100 g powdered sugar
- Pour gingerbread spice into the bowl and mix briefly.1 teaspoon gingerbread spice
- Add flour in portions to the butter mixture, mixing briefly at low speed – the dough will be quite thick at the end.250 g all-purpose flour
- Place the bowl with the dough in the refrigerator for about an hour.
Step 2 – prepare the cookies
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius – top/bottom heat mode.
- From the chilled dough, scoop portions with a teaspoon and roll into balls the size of a medium walnut – I got 27 cookies in total.
- Arrange the cookies on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper – leave space between the cookies, as they will spread a bit during baking.
- Gently flatten each ball with your hand. Use the handle of a large spoon or, for example, a meat mallet to make small indentations in the balls.
- If the dough breaks during this process, gently stick it back together.
- Fill the indentations with some fruit preserves – I transferred them to a piping bag and squeezed them through it – this way the preserves went exactly where they were supposed to ;)approx 70 g plum jam
Step 3 – bake the cookies with plum jam
- Place the baking sheet with cookies in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the baked cookies from the oven – when hot, they are still very soft, so do not remove them from the baking sheet immediately, but let them cool down. If the cookies stuck together during baking, gently cut them apart with a knife while they are hot.

Cookies with plum jam – notes
During the pre-Christmas period, I gladly bake aromatic gingerbread-spiced goods for us, and this time I prepared these cookies with plum jam. Slightly crispy and at the same time practically melting in your mouth. With the addition of delicious plum jam, it’s the essence of winter flavor. The cookies are also very simple to prepare and are great for making with small children. You must try this recipe!

What ingredients are necessary to bake spiced cookies?
To prepare these cookies, you’ll only need five ingredients that you probably already have at home. Below, I provide possible substitutes for the products I used.
- gingerbread spice mix – mine is a homemade gingerbread spice mix – very aromatic and strong in flavor – which is why just one teaspoon of the spice gave the cookies a perfect taste. I also recommend preparing your own homemade gingerbread spice mix, but if you lack the spices to prepare it, or don’t have time, use a store-bought one, but make sure it’s good quality. I can wholeheartedly recommend Kotanyi gingerbread spice mix here, with its ideal composition. Other spice mixes very often have wheat flour (!), sugar, or even cocoa as their main ingredient.
- plum butter/preserves – mine is plum butter, but if you don’t have it or don’t like it, you can use jam or marmalade. I don’t recommend regular store-bought jam, because such jams often contain gelatin or another gelling agent that melts significantly when heated, causing the entire jam to run out.

Can you make vegan cookies with preserves?
Yes, of course. Because the cookies have few ingredients, it’s easy to prepare a vegan version. Simply replace regular butter with good quality plant-based butter.

How to store spiced cookies with preserves?
It’s best to transfer the cookies to an airtight container or tin so they don’t dry out. We ate our cookies within a week, and on the last day, they were just as tasty as on the first. But they can easily last even longer!
