Why Bake This Creamed Poppy Seed Cake?
I got the idea for this fluffy poppy seed cake from Instagram – and since I love poppy seed cakes, I prepared my own version of this delicious cake. For me, the cake itself is a definite “must bake”. Very simple and quick, plus super fluffy and moist, with an amazing poppy seed filling. This cake will be perfect for a weekend dessert, but also for Christmas or Easter. Especially if you don’t have time to bake a yeast poppy seed roll. You must try this recipe and save it for later!

Ingredients for Marble Poppy Seed Cake
To make such a beaten poppy seed cake, you will only need a few basic ingredients that are very easily available in any store. Below is a shortened list of products I used and possible substitutes.
- blue poppy seeds – you need ground poppy seeds here – it’s best to buy them already ground; if you don’t have them, only regular seeds, then you must first cook them, cool them, and then grind them 2-3 times in a meat grinder.
- almonds – you can buy ground almonds (so-called almond flour) directly, or finely grind regular almonds.
- butter – mine is extra butter 82%, optionally it can also be a butter blend, or vegetable butter.
- milk – mine is 1.5% milk, but you can use any other milk, even plant-based milk.
- all-purpose flour – use your favourite :)
- sugar – for beaten cakes, I prefer to use powdered sugar – the mixture blends faster and is fluffier, but if you don’t have powdered sugar, use regular granulated sugar – just extend the time for mixing sugar with butter.

How to decorate marble poppy seed cake?
After baking and cooling my poppy seed cake, I spread it with a simple chocolate glaze, but you can also prepare icing for it, or simply sprinkle the top with powdered sugar.
How to make chocolate glaze for poppy seed cake?
To make a simple chocolate glaze, heat 50 ml of 30% heavy cream in a saucepan. When hot, add 100 g of broken milk chocolate. Mix thoroughly until the chocolate melts. Cool the glaze, and when it thickens slightly, pour it over the top of the cake.
If you prefer less sweet cakes, prepare such a glaze with 100 ml of heavy cream and 100 g of dark chocolate.

How to make icing for beaten poppy seed cake?
If you prefer icing for this cake, pour about 150 g of powdered sugar into a bowl. Gradually add 2-3 tablespoons of milk and mix thoroughly until you get a thick but slightly pourable icing. Spread it over the completely cooled cake. If you like, you can add flavor to the icing by adding a teaspoon of lemon juice instead of some of the milk. You can also add a touch of cake flavoring – e.g., almond or rum :)

How many calories does poppy seed cake with chocolate glaze have?
My creamed poppy seed cake with chocolate glaze had 399 kcal per serving (when cut into 12 pieces) (carbohydrates – 36 g, protein – 9 g, fat – 24 g).

How to store poppy seed cake to keep it fresh?
After baking and cooling, it’s worth transferring the marble poppy seed cake to an airtight container with a lid to keep it fresh and fluffy for longer. You don’t need to store it in the refrigerator. At room temperature, it can easily last for about 5 days. You can also freeze the cake for about 3 months.
