Sugar – recipes for everyone!

Sugar, or sucrose, is a sweet-tasting substance found in plants. Mainly from sugar beet and sugar cane (cane sugar).

Sugar is sweet and odorless and is widely used in desserts.

It gives a sweet taste and enhances the intensity of aromas. It soothes sour and bitter taste. It gives cakes a golden color.

Sugar added to yeast speeds up their growth.

It also ensures the right consistency for meringues and sponge cakes.

Ground sugar – or powdered sugar – is also used to decorate sweet baked goods.

Nowadays, sugar is often considered evil, but it is hard to imagine sweet baked goods without it.

If we want to give up sugar, or limit its amount, we can use substitutes.

Xylitol and erythritol will work great here. In some baked goods, you can replace sugar with honey, date syrup or agave syrup.
