Bake with me today delicious and very simple coffee tiramisu cookies. These cookies, inspired by the famous Italian tiramisu dessert, taste absolutely exquisite! Soft inside and slightly crispy outside, these coffee cookies are decorated with mascarpone cream and sprinkled with bitter cocoa. Thanks to this, they are not only delicious but also look wonderful. Cookies in this form can be a decoration for any dessert table! You must try them!

  • 150 g powdered sugar (1 cup)
  • 1 egg (size L – at room temperature)
  • 250 g all-purpose flour (1 ⅔ cups)
  • 3 tablespoons instant coffee (powdered)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoons salt

  • 80 ml heavy cream (cold)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (or to taste)

How to make tiramisu cookies step by step

    Step 1 – creaming the butter

    • Beat the butter with powdered sugar until light and fluffy – I beat for about 3 minutes on the highest speed of the mixer.

    • Add the egg to the butter and mix briefly on low speed.

    Step 2 – adding the remaining ingredients

    • Add part of the flour to the eggs and mix on low speed until just combined.

    • Add baking powder and salt – mix briefly.

    • Add instant coffee powder and mix briefly.

    • Add the rest of the flour and mix briefly – just until combined.

    • Place the bowl with the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes – so that the mixture slightly firms up.

    Step 3 – preparing the cookies

    • Preheat the oven to 180 ℃ (conventional) or 170 ℃ (convection).
    • Scoop portions of dough with a large spoon.

    • Roll balls in your hands the size of a large walnut.

    • Arrange the cookies spaced apart on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    • Bake the cookies in a preheated oven for about 14 minutes.
    • After baking, the cookies will still be very soft; they will start to harden slightly after cooling.

    Step 4 – preparing the mascarpone cream

    • Transfer mascarpone, heavy cream, and powdered sugar to a bowl.
      250 g mascarpone cheese, 80 ml heavy cream, 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

    • Blend them into a thick cream.

    Step 5 – decorating the cookies

    • Apply the cream to the cookies – you can transfer it to a piping bag and cut off a corner to make the cream look nicer.

    • Finally, sprinkle the top of the cookies with bitter cocoa.

    Coffee tiramisu cookies – notes

    I found the recipe for these delicious cookies on the blog Broma Bakery. Here I’m providing a slightly modified recipe, with the main changes concerning the mascarpone cream on top. The author of the recipe prepared it with a cup of sugar, which for me is an almost deadly amount ;) I prepared my cream with just two tablespoons of sugar, and the cookies were still sweet. With my cream, the tiramisu cookies tasted exquisite, not only to me but also to the rest of the household. If you like tiramisu and coffee flavors, then you will surely enjoy these cookies too!

    What ingredients are needed to make tiramisu cookies?

    To prepare coffee cookies, you need a few basic ingredients. Below, I list the products I used and possible substitutes.

    • coffee – you need instant coffee powder – you add the powder directly to the cookies – do not mix it with water
    • butter – I used extra butter with 82% fat content; this type of butter will be best, but you can ultimately also use a butter-type mix or vegetable butter
    • mascarpone – this is a creamy and smooth Italian cream cheese; you can easily buy it in any Lidl or Biedronka, as well as in larger stores
    • whipping cream – I used 30% fat content cream in a carton; you can also use 36% cream – in which case the calorie count will slightly increase

    How to store tiramisu cookies?

    If the mascarpone cream cookies are not eaten immediately, I recommend storing the cookies separately from the cream. You can transfer the cookies to an airtight container with a lid to prevent them from drying out and to keep them fresh for longer. Store the mascarpone cream in the refrigerator. It’s best to apply the cream to the cookies just before serving. Although cookies with cream can safely sit out for a few hours – this will also depend on the ambient temperature – the warmer it is, the shorter this period will be.

    How to vary the flavor of coffee cookies?

    If you want to slightly enhance the flavor of the cream cookies, instead of dusting them with bitter cocoa, you can grate chocolate over them – bitter or milk chocolate – depending on your taste preferences. And if you like strong coffee flavors, instead of cocoa or chocolate, sprinkle instant coffee powder over the mascarpone cream. You can also use flavored instant coffee here.
