Baked chocolate donuts with pumpkin – notes
I prepared my chocolate-pumpkin donuts today with Halloween in mind – hence the choice of sugar sprinkles, but their taste is so versatile that they can adorn any table, for various holidays and celebrations. Donuts baked with dark chocolate have a deep chocolate flavor, and pumpkin adds moisture and lightness to them. Additionally, a layer of dark chocolate glaze and sweet sprinkles complete the overall taste. For me, it’s a sensation! You must try them! And if you’re also looking for other inspirations for Halloween sweets, check out my Halloween recipes and find the perfect recipe for yourself.

What ingredients are necessary to bake chocolate donuts?
To make the donuts, you only need a few basic ingredients. Below, I’m sharing a short list of the products I used, along with possible substitutes.
- chocolate – dark chocolate works best, but you can also use semi-sweet chocolate. Half of the bar (50 g) goes into the donut batter, and the other half is used for the glaze—so nothing goes to waste :)
- pumpkin -here, I used pumpkin purée from baby food jars—those “first foods” for babies. This purée is quite watery (compared to regular pumpkin purée), so the batter turned out more runny. You can use regular pumpkin purée instead—I recommend baking a Hokkaido pumpkin (see my post on making pumpkin purée). If the batter is too thick, you can thin it slightly by adding a little regular milk at a time.
- sugar – I used powdered sugar so it would dissolve quickly in the warm glaze, but you can also use regular granulated sugar—if measuring by cup, use a little over 1/3 cup of granulated sugar, or adjust to taste.

I don’t have a donut pan—how can I bake them?
If you don’t have a special donut pan, you can bake regular muffins with this batter—I suggest doubling the ingredients to make about 12 muffins. Prepare the muffins the same way as the donuts and spoon the batter into paper liners. Bake them in a preheated oven for about 20–25 minutes. Once baked and cooled, you can drizzle them with chocolate glaze and sprinkle with toppings.
Chocolate Pumpkin Donuts for Halloween
If you’re making the donuts for Halloween, it’s worth looking for Halloween decorations in stores—now you can even find some in regular shops like Biedronka or Lidl. These could be sugar sprinkles—for example, I used sugar bones and skulls, plus colorful autumn sprinkles with various leaves. You can also top them with marshmallows shaped like vampire teeth, or chocolate eyes :)

How can you decorate chocolate donuts?
If you don’t have sugar sprinkles, no worries. You can sprinkle the glaze with chopped nuts—hazelnuts, walnuts, or pecans work great. You can also grate some chocolate on top for an extra chocolatey touch, making the donuts triple chocolate :)
I hope these baked pumpkin donuts with chocolate will delight you and your loved ones, and that you’ll enjoy making them during pumpkin season—and beyond :) Leave a comment under the recipe and share your thoughts and feedback.
