Powdered Milk Cookies – my notes
Today I have for you a recipe for powdered milk cookies with chocolate and nuts. The recipe comes from Donna Hay’s book “Modern Baking” (I modified it a bit). Donna Hay is a very well-known and popular author of many cookbooks and culinary shows, especially in Australia. Donna is known for her recipes being very simple and not requiring specially hard-to-find ingredients. These cookies are just like that. I love such cookies – they are quick to make and always taste amazing :)

How to prepare powdered milk cookies – tips and advice
You don’t need to roll out these powdered milk cookies or cut out shapes with a cookie cutter. Take a spoonful of dough and roll balls in your hands. It couldn’t be simpler!
For flavor, I added chopped chocolate and crunchy nuts – you can use your favorites. Even though I used dark chocolate, they are still very sweet – thanks to the powdered milk. So, if you like less sweet cookies, use less sugar :)

What kind of powdered milk for cookies?
Use full-fat powdered milk here – the loose kind. Do not use granulated milk – it is a bit cheaper than powdered milk, but the milk granules will not dissolve, and then you will have milk balls in your cookies. Generally, for all recipes with powdered milk on the blog, we only use powdered milk, not granulated!
This recipe yields about 30 sizable cookies.

How to make powdered milk cookies?
In the recipe, I included photos of the preparation, so I hope making the cookies won’t cause you any problems. First, cream the soft butter with sugar – this can be regular sugar, powdered sugar, or brown sugar – I think xylitol would also work well here. Then add the egg with the yolk to the butter, followed by the flour with powdered milk. Add chopped chocolate – you can leave some larger pieces of chocolate so you can feel them nicely in the cookies later. Then add chopped nuts and mix the mixture with a spoon. Take portions of dough with a spoon and roll balls in your hands – place the powdered milk cookies on a baking sheet. You can bake them as balls – this will result in taller cookies, or you can gently flatten them before baking – then the cookies will be wider and flatter.

How long to bake chocolate cookies?
Place the baking sheet with cookies in an oven preheated to 160 degrees Celsius (fan-assisted mode). It can also be 170 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat. If you are baking flatter cookies, about 15-16 minutes will be enough; however, if you are baking balls, extend the baking time to about 20 minutes. After baking, the cookies may still be slightly soft, but they will harden slightly on the outside as they cool. Then you can remove them from the baking sheet. Powdered milk cookies are best stored in an airtight container. This could be, for example, a metal cookie tin. In such conditions, the cookies can last a long time.
