Why bake kadayif brownie?
My chocolate brownie cake today is a real hit. It’s extremely simple to prepare – you won’t even need a mixer – and it tastes and looks like it came from the best pastry shop. With very little effort and time, you get a cake that no one will be indifferent to! The rich chocolate, moist brownie tastes excellent in combination with the oriental, crispy shredded pastry – kadayif. The cake will be perfect not only for a weekend dessert but also for special occasions and holidays. Be sure to save this recipe for later!

What is kadayif?
Quoting Google – Kadayif originates from Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisine, and is particularly popular in Turkey and Greece (where it is more commonly called – kataifi). It is a type of thin, stringy dough that forms the base of many traditional desserts. The dough is crispy and essentially rather tasteless on its own. Therefore, it is best mixed with a sweet, sticky mass – such as honey, or various chocolate and pistachio creams.
I bought my kadayif dough at Lidl, but due to its growing popularity in Poland (thanks to Dubai chocolate), it can be found in larger supermarkets, and without any problem in online stores – for example, on Allegro.

Ingredients necessary for baking brownie cake
To make this chocolate cake with kadayif, you will only need a few basic ingredients (besides kadayif dough), which you can easily get in any store. Below is a shortened list of the products I used and possible substitutes.
- chocolate – use dark or semi-sweet chocolate here (I don’t recommend milk chocolate, because the cake will be too sweet – unless you like very sweet cakes ;)
- butter – I used extra 82% butter, but you can ultimately replace it with a butter blend or vegetable butter
- whipping cream – I used 30% UHT cream and calculated the cake’s calorie content for it; you can ultimately also use 36% cream
- nutella – it can be the original spread, but you can easily use its substitutes available at Lidl (if you live in Europe), or you can also “go wild” and use pistachio cream :)

How to store chocolate cake with kadayif?
After baking and completely cooling, transfer the cake to an airtight container with a lid. This will keep the brownie fresh longer and prevent the kadayif layer from drying out. You don’t need to keep it in the refrigerator. Room temperature is perfectly sufficient.

How many kcal does kadayif brownie cake have?
In the table below the recipe, I provided the calorie content for 100g of the cake (using the products I used). If you divide the cake into approximately 16 equal pieces, each will have around 370 kcal (carbohydrates – 41g, fats – 21g, proteins – 5g).

So, do you already smell that chocolate and crispy kadayif wafting through the kitchen? This combination of flavors can truly delight – intensely chocolatey, delicately moist brownie with a wonderfully crunchy, chocolatey kadayif layer is a dessert you simply must try!
