Why Make This Protein Cake Without White Sugar?
I prepared today’s protein cake for my husband and his colleagues for a running trip. The gentlemen were running the Karkonosze Winter Ultramarathon, so I supported them with this good cake. This cake was perfect for them – without added white sugar, with natural sweetness from bananas. Plus, ingredients rich in protein – eggs, natural skyr, and protein powder. This made the cake have an excellent composition in terms of carbohydrates and protein – ideal for physical exertion. Such a protein cake is not only a great option for runners and athletes but also for people on a diet and those looking for a healthier alternative to store-bought sweets. If you like such healthy sweets and fit desserts, then you must try this recipe!

Who is this protein cake suitable for?
In my opinion, this is a great cake for athletes and active people. But not only! It’s an excellent suggestion for a fit cake for people on a diet – 100g of the cake has less than 200 kcal, and it has great nutritional values. You can also serve this cake to children and pack it in a lunch box – sugar-free cake, sweetened only with bananas, will be a healthy snack during the day, as well as a post-workout snack. This protein banana cake will be ideal for all people who want to eat better, while not wanting to give up sweets and desserts.

Ingredients for protein cake with bananas and chocolate
To make such a healthy fit banana cake at home, you will only need a few basic ingredients. Below is a condensed list of the products I used and possible substitutes.
- protein powder – I used vanilla-flavored protein powder, you can choose any protein powder here – one you have at home
- natural skyr – for this cake, I chose skyr because it has more protein than Greek yogurt, but if you don’t have skyr, use natural Greek yogurt
- flour – I used regular wheat flour because that’s what I had at home, but if you want the cake to be even healthier and more nutritious, you can swap wheat flour for another flour – e.g., oat, spelt, or even wholemeal flour – if the cake is too thick after using a different flour, add more skyr or regular milk
- chocolate – I used chocolate chips (dessert chocolate), you can use any chocolate here – your favorite, instead of chocolate you can also sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the cake

Nutritional values and macronutrients of the fit banana cake
In the table below the recipe, I provided the calorie count for 100g of the cake. If you divide the cake into 9 equal and substantial pieces, each will have approximately 180 kcal (carbohydrates – 21g, protein – 13g, fats – 4g). You can also cut the cake into 12 slightly smaller pieces, and then each will have approximately 134 kcal (carbohydrates – 16g, protein – 10g, fats – 3g).
Many people wonder how much protein a cake has and whether it can actually support a sports diet. In the case of classic baked goods, the amount of protein is small, but here – thanks to the addition of protein powder, high-protein skyr, and eggs – the protein content is significantly higher.

Why is protein so important for workouts?
Protein is the basic building block of muscles. During training – especially strength or interval training – micro-damage to muscle fibers occurs. This is a natural process. However, the body needs an adequate amount of amino acids to rebuild and strengthen them.
That’s why an adequate protein intake:
- supports post-workout recovery
- helps build muscle mass
- reduces catabolism (muscle breakdown)
- accelerates return to full fitness
Protein intake after physical exertion promotes so-called muscle protein synthesis, a process through which the body adapts to training and becomes stronger.
Protein is important not only for athletes. An adequate amount in the diet:
- increases satiety (which helps with weight management)
- stabilizes blood sugar levels
- supports immunity
- affects the condition of skin, hair, and nails
- is essential for the production of enzymes and hormones
Therefore, the macros of a protein cake can also be important for people on a diet or those who simply want to eat more consciously. It’s a great way to sneak more protein into your diet in a form that truly tastes good. If you’re wondering how much protein a cake has and whether it’s worth opting for such an option, the answer is: definitely yes! It’s a dessert that combines pleasure with real support for the body – both after training and in a daily, balanced diet.

In summary – this healthy high-protein cake is more than just a fit dessert. It’s a tasty and convenient way to supplement protein in your diet, support post-workout recovery, and better control satiety throughout the day. If you care about conscious eating and at the same time don’t want to give up sweet pleasures, then this protein cake with bananas and chocolate will be the perfect choice. Delicious, simple, and beneficial for your body.
