Banana muffins with chocolate – why make them?
I prepared the muffins from today’s recipe for our trip to UTMB in France, which I briefly mentioned with my recipe for cocoa cake with icing. Both the cocoa cake and these banana muffins disappeared in the blink of an eye and everyone loved them. And why are they worth making? Well, there are several reasons for this, and their unique taste is just one of them! These muffins are very simple and very quick to prepare – everything, including baking, will take you about 30 minutes. Give them another 10-15 minutes to cool down, and you can eat them warm! In this form, banana muffins are an excellent idea for a sweet breakfast for the whole family! Another reason – it’s not wasting food. In my family, and I dare say in yours too, no one wants to eat browned bananas. It’s a shame to throw them away, because such brown bananas are perfect for baking. If you haven’t baked anything with such very ripe bananas until now, then these banana cupcakes with chocolate chips will be an excellent first bake. You absolutely must try them!

Ingredients for banana muffins with chocolate chips
To prepare these quick muffins, you only need a few very basic ingredients that you probably already have at home. Below is a condensed list of the products I used and possible substitutes:
- bananas – for me, these were two larger bananas, and after peeling, they weighed 160 g
- oil – I used rapeseed oil, but you can also use another mild-flavored oil; it can also be melted coconut oil, or even melted butter
- all-purpose flour – any flour will be good; you can also try making them with a different flour – e.g., spelt – if the batter is too thick, thin it with a little milk
- chocolate – I used dark chocolate here, which I roughly chopped with a knife; if you prefer sweeter bakes, you can use milk chocolate or chocolate chips
- sugar – I only added half a cup of sugar to the muffins (even despite the dark chocolate), because bananas add natural sweetness to them; if you wish, you can replace sugar with xylitol or erythritol

What instead of chocolate for muffins?
Don’t have chocolate, or don’t like it in baked goods? No problem! If you want to diversify the flavor of your banana muffins, you can add a handful of chopped nuts to the batter – use your favorite ones. Instead of nuts, dried fruits can also be used – e.g., dried plums, apricots, or regular raisins. And if you have fresh small fruits, you can arrange them on top of the muffins and bake them together. They will surely taste amazing!

Ideas for serving banana muffins with chocolate
Such banana muffins with chocolate chips are not just a delicious and simple dessert. I also recommend serving them for a sweet breakfast. Thanks to their quick preparation, still warm muffins with chocolate chips will make a delicious and fast meal. You can also pack cooled muffins for children in their lunchboxes so they can eat them at school. It’s also an ideal idea for a second breakfast at work or university. Pack them and take them as a snack before, during, or after a workout. Additionally, these banana muffins travel perfectly, so it’s worth preparing them for a longer trip. They don’t spoil, don’t fall apart, and don’t make a mess – and they taste great!

How to store banana muffins with chocolate?
You don’t need to keep these banana muffins in the fridge. If you transfer them to an airtight container with a lid, they can safely sit on the kitchen counter for several days. Thanks to the cover, they won’t dry out and will retain their freshness and moisture for a long time. You can also freeze banana-chocolate muffins for about 3 months.
I hope this easy recipe for banana and chocolate muffins will also find its way into your home. I would be very happy if you then share your impressions in the comments under the recipe.
