Why is it worth making gingerbread liqueur?
Colder weather and the upcoming Christmas holidays encourage more frequent use of gingerbread spice. And since I like to occasionally prepare a delicious homemade liqueur with a light alcohol content myself, I recently made this gingerbread liqueur for myself and my husband. The liqueur is super simple and quick to prepare, and it tastes absolutely divine! Delicately sweet and aromatic thanks to the gingerbread spice. It will be perfect as an aperitif for the upcoming Christmas. Be sure to try this recipe and save it for later (even on my Instagram :)).

What ingredients are necessary to make gingerbread liqueur?
To make such a simple homemade gingerbread liqueur, you only need a few basic and very easily accessible ingredients. Below is a short list of products I used and possible substitutes.
- whipping cream – I used UHT cream with 30% fat content; I do not recommend 36% cream here because it will be thicker, and consequently, the liqueur might also be too thick
- cocoa – for a delicate color, I added a tablespoon of dark cocoa, but it is not essential; you can make the liqueur without it – it will then have a lighter color
- white chocolate – when buying chocolate, pay attention to its weight; larger chocolate producers very often reduce the weight of the packaging and sell chocolate at 90 or even 80 g – you can use such a smaller package – only then the liqueur will be less sweet.
- gingerbread spice mix – for the liqueur to be aromatic, use a good quality spice mix – I recommend preparing homemade spice mix from my recipe, but if you don’t have time for that, then in the store, be sure to first check the composition of the purchased spice mix – many of them have wheat flour as the main ingredient! The best spice mix is from Katanyi – only warm spices without flour; recently, I also saw Kamis spice mix with a relatively good composition – it does contain sugar, but it is not in the first position, but further down, here a spice mix with added sugar will also work
- vodka – use any vodka – of course, a regular one, not flavored ;)

How long can gingerbread liqueur last? Storage and tips
Liqueur based on whipping cream is best consumed within about 3 months. But if it is stored in the refrigerator, it can very often last longer. If the liqueur is to be consumed relatively quickly, you don’t need to keep it in the refrigerator. Mine stands on the kitchen windowsill and is doing well ;)

Serving and ideas for using gingerbread liqueur
You can, of course, drink the liqueur on its own – as an aperitif, or as an addition to a sweet dessert. It will taste great, for example, with cake. I also love adding it to my macchiatto coffee. If you like flavored coffee, be sure to add a little liqueur to it – you’ll see how wonderfully it enhances its taste.
Gingerbread in chocolate liqueur is also an excellent addition to other desserts – you can, for example, pour it over ice cream, or use it to soak a festive cake.

Gingerbread in chocolate liqueur as a DIY gift
Christmas is just around the corner, and if you’re thinking about handmade DIY gifts, then such a homemade liqueur will be an excellent idea. DIY Christmas gifts are a great way to give something to someone close to you. Homemade liqueur as a gift will work well, for example, as a present for mom or grandma. They will surely appreciate such a gift. Be sure to pour the liqueur into aesthetic, small bottles – for example, in the shape of a Christmas tree. Add decorations to the bottle, such as a green twig, a small bauble, and a bow, and your DIY Christmas gift is ready!
