Panna cotta with honey – notes

My today’s recipe for panna cotta with honey was prepared in cooperation with the National Association of Rapeseed and Protein Plant Producers as part of a campaign aimed at showcasing the benefits of using honey in the diet. The dessert itself is extremely simple and quick to prepare, and its delicate taste makes it an ideal dessert for both children and adults. You must try this recipe and save it for later.

What ingredients are essential for preparing honey panna cotta?

To prepare this summer dessert, you will only need a few basic ingredients. Below is a list of products I used.

    • honey – for my panna cotta, I added acacia honey, which is delicate in taste and sweet – thanks to this, it doesn’t strongly alter the dessert’s flavor, and the taste and aroma of the honey are light and not too intense
    • milk – I used 1.5% UHT milk, but you can use any other milk, or even replace it with a plant-based drink
    • heavy cream – I used 30% cream in a carton, you can also use 36% cream, but then the dessert’s calorie content will slightly increase
    • gelatin – I used powdered gelatin

How to serve honey panna cotta?

Serve the honey panna cotta when it has completely set. To enhance its flavor, you can decorate it with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey. For my panna cotta, I added sliced apricot, crushed sesame snaps, and a few lavender flowers. The sesame snaps and lavender wonderfully complemented the dessert’s flavor and made it look exceptional!

Why is it worth including honey in your diet?

Honey is a very valuable component of our diet. It is naturally sweet due to carbohydrates, but besides them, it contains enzymes, vitamins (including B-group vitamins and vitamin C), and microelements (including potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium). The enzymes in honey support digestion and have antibacterial properties. When preparing meals, you can use it to replace sugar – remember to properly prepare dishes with honey. They should not be heated too much, because then honey loses its health-promoting properties. Already above 40℃, the enzymes contained in honey lose their properties. Therefore, adding honey to hot tea is not beneficial for our health! It’s better to add it to a lukewarm infusion to enjoy the full health benefits of honey.

    How to properly store honey?

Thanks to its enzymes, honey stays fresh for a very long time, and its crystallization is a completely normal phenomenon. To keep honey good for consumption as long as possible, it should be stored in a dark and cool place. The optimal temperature for storing honey is 8-10℃. Also, remember to use a glass container with an airtight lid. Under these conditions, honey can be stored for up to 3 years.

    What honey is the best?

In Poland, we have many varieties of honey. We divide them into honeydew and nectar honeys. Honeydew honeys are made from honeydew and usually have a darker color, also containing more mineral salts than nectar honeys. Among nectar honeys, rapeseed honey is the most common, due to the large number of rapeseed fields cultivated in Poland. Rapeseed honey has a delicate, mild taste and is very sweet. It is characterized by a very light color. Most often, you will buy it already in a more solid form, as rapeseed honey crystallizes very quickly. Acacia honey from black locust is also very popular. This honey is the sweetest Polish honey, and its taste is also very delicate. These honeys perfectly replace sugar and synthetic sweeteners. And thanks to their delicate taste, both children and adults can consume them.

It is also not true that dark honeydew honeys are better than light nectar honeys. Nectar honeys are just as tasty and healthy as the dark ones, provided you store and use them correctly.
